Schmitty the Weather Dog by Elly McGuire and Simon Estrada is such an adorable children’s book. When I received my copy in the mail, I flipped through it and loved the illustrations so much, I grabbed my four-year old, and we immediately read it together.
Set in New York City, this story tells of the dog’s master who wants desperately to be a meteorologist but struggles to learn the integral skills of weather prediction. Schmitty feels sorry for his “two-legged dad” and decides to take some action. Through observing his surroundings, Schmitty begins to gain some legitimate forecasting skills. He then contacts a local news channel and sets up an audition for his master and him. Ultimately, Schmitty swoops in to save the day, and they both end up as meteorologists.
