They call this race the ‘Happiest 5K on the Planet’ and I would have to agree. From the time we walked up at 6:30 am to pick up our packets and shirts to the end of the after-party, there were smiles, singing and dancing galore. I had heard a lot of great things about The Color Run, but we are usually out of town during this week. Luckily, our beach trip shifted this year, so we were able to participate in the run.
We decided to do the race as a family since it’s meant to be festive, and it’s not timed. The weather was absolutely perfect and the scenery of downtown Asheville is always breathtaking. We put our three-year old in his stroller and our six-year old ran/walked the entire thing. It was really fun. There were kiddos of all ages (even tiny babies) wearing headbands, tattoos and glitter.
Because so many people run this race, they start different groups of people every five minutes to space everyone out. Before we started and while we were waiting for the rest of our group to arrive, we had a lot of fun walking around looking at everyone’s outfits, face paint, etc.
Once we started running, the fun was on! There were color stations throughout the run. Before we got to a station, we could hear music booming from speakers then shortly thereafter, we would run under one of the big colored arches then wham-o! We would get either sprayed or sprinkled with color and/or glitter. One of my favorite things along the route was the Happy Wall where people could write down what makes them happy and post it on the wall. Both my husband and I wrote down our family. Pretty cute. Cheesy, but still cute!
As soon as we crossed the finish line, we all got medals. The boys thought that was awesome. They deserved those medals; they did such a great job. After the race, they had a live DJ playing the best dance music ever. I broadcasted some videos on Periscope and my followers couldn’t believe how early every one was up breaking it down. Every so often, to the beat of the music, people would throw color pouches in the air that great poofs of rainbow colors went up into the air. So cool! We danced and boogies until the little one was tuckered out. On the way out, they had folks with leaf blowers to blow the loose glitter and paint off of runners. Our six-year old thought that was awesome (I kind of did too!).
The Color Run was absolutely an experience to remember. I do believe we will be making it a family-fun event every year. If you have never done it, you should try! You can’t help but feel happy afterward.
So fun!! We were there around 7:30. I had no idea you guys were already there! I Would have tried to meet up briefly before we took off. š
