Ode to My First 5K

Ode to My First 5K #running #wellness

Today is the day of my first 5K

I’m gearing up, kicking the nerves away

It’s really no biggie as I’m not planning to place,

But there’s still anxiety because it’s called a “race”

A race is a thing to conquer and win

To feel victorious and pride within

I do have a goal of a 30 minute run

We’ll see if I can achieve that and still have fun

It’s not a marathon or triathlon or even a 10K

But when you’re older and it’s a first, it kind of feels that way

My plan is to up the runs over the next two years

To run further and further to the sound of cheers

As spectators yell for all in the game

First or last, we’re all the same

Let’s hope this is the beginning of a new chapter

One full of training, sweat, joy, and laughter

Is there something you’ve been wanting to try?

There is only now, don’t let it pass  you by

Good luck!!! You’re gonna rock it. I have been wanting to sign up for my first 5K for about a year now, but I keep chickening out. I can’t wait to hear how it went!

Thank you! You should definitely run one if you’ve been thinking about it. Maybe when the snow finally melts…

You will LOVE it! I like running races better than training by myself. Adrenline kicks in, Hubs paces with me, and it’s FUN! I’m running the #princesshalf next week. 13.1 miles will be the LONGEST race, ever!!!

You go girl! The Princess Half sounds like a blast. Maybe one day I’ll do it… I’m hoping the adrenaline kicks in. It’s got to be more fun than running on the treadmill.

Congrats! I hope you had a great race. I remember my first 5K. I was so nervous. I’ve just started running again (actually it’s more like a walk/jog), but I’m looking forward to working my way up to running 5ks.

I have not ran in years because I am too heavy to comfortable run now. I do however walk each day to get back to running weight. I remember the high running used to provide me with…it was awesome!!

I’m pretty sure a 5 minute run would feel like a 5k to me! LOL. My brother has been really into running and is making me almost want to give it a try. Almost.

How fun! I hope you beat your goal and had a blast!! I *just* started running with my family and am about to die when I finish my 9 minute mile (down nearly a minute from my first run a few weeks ago)! Someday, MAYBE, I’ll be good enough to feel like I can handle a 5K… You rock!
