Wow great information! Lice is so common these days with younger children and this is a great preventative method. Thanks for sharing.

Have you heard of anyone substituting the Melaleuca for Tea Tree? I have heard Tea Tree is an excellent lice repellent and wondering why you chose Melaleuca instead. I am still learning this essential oil stuff so thank you so much for sharing!!

Just for clarification: we are to use five drops of EACH oil on the list? I want to make this today, with word that “super lice” have made it to our region. My child has been exposed to strep twice this week alone, so I really don’t trust the parental discretion at his school right now. Thanks!

Oh, no! That sounds terrible. Yes, I use five drops of each oil and then shake before spraying. Good luck!

It stays blended pretty well, but I still shake it up before spraying.

What is the reason for distilled water? Would regular water be okay?

Distilled water goes through a boiling process so all contaminants, minerals, and bacteria are removed. Distilled water would be less likely interfere with the smell and effect of the oils, but if you only have tap water, it would work better than making the spray at all. Hope that’s helpful!

Do you just mist the child’s hair like you would hairspray or do you want to get the scalp pretty good?!

Yes, just mist around the scalp area and you’re good to go!

You may not need quite that much. Start out using maybe 6-7 each. If it smells pretty potent, you’re good to go!

Just curious why rosemary, lavender & peppermint are used ? Is it to help calm the smell of tea tree oil(malaleuca)? Just wondering because I’ve only heard to use water mixed with the tea tree.
