I’ve been trying to write this blog post for three days but when you’re at the beach, it’s so very hard to come inside, away from the gorgeous ocean, and get on the computer. We’re now on day four, so I’ve carved out some time to get out of the sun, dust off the keyboard, and tell you a little about our trip so far.
We are staying at a beach house with Todd’s family on Topsail Island, NC. It’s been an extremely relaxing week. In fact, I had no idea what day it was yesterday. I wasn’t sure if it was Tuesday or Wednesday, and as my brother-in-law reminded me, that’s a good sign we’re enjoying ourselves while on vacation.
We arrived Sunday evening and the minute we pulled into the driveway, the boys wanted to walk on the beach. It was a beautiful evening so we frolicked about, took some photos and found a few sharks teeth.
As we watched the day turn to night over the ocean, I could feel stress leave my body. Oh, how rejuvenating the beach is to me.
Monday was our first full day, and it rained until noon. The boys were totally bummed, so we had to be creative in entertaining them indoors. We adults played Yahtzee while the little ones discovered how to use Snapchat on my phone.
Once the clouds parted and the sun came out, we hauled all of the gear and provisions down to the beach and set up camp for the day. And then we did the same thing the next day and then the next day and so on. It’s been amazing. With only two days left, we’re trying to enjoy every moment we can with the waves and sand.
For the most part, the weather has been beautiful, so we have been enjoying ourselves thoroughly. Both boys love playing in the ocean which means they don’t let Mommy and Daddy relax very much. Every other minute, it’s “Will you get in the water with me?” or “Can we get back in the water now?” or “Why are you sitting there reading? We can read at home. Let’s go get in the water!”
And even though part of me wants to sit and relax, a bigger part of me loves watching their zest and excitement for the beach. I know a time will come when they will be big enough and strong enough to play deep in the water on their own. I don’t want that time to come too fast, so right now, I’m not only soaking up the rays but also soaking up the memories we’re making as a family.
