What’s in your medicine cabinet? I don’t know about you, but I am extremely picky about what goes in and on my two little boys’ bodies. My sister is an esthetician and works in the skin care field all day, every day. She has told me that most over-the-counter products are stuffed with fillers, chemicals, parabens, sulfates, and preservatives. Further, most of them don’t work all that well.
Since learning more about skin care products, I am now willing to spend a couple extra dollars for products that do not contain these gross ingredients and actually do their job for my children
I was sent the following four organic/natural heath care products to review, and I love all of them. Below are 4 essentials that every parent should keep in the medicine cabinet.
Fairy Tales Lice Good-Bye Survival Kit
Obviously, none of us want our children to get lice, but it happens often, even to the most unsuspecting victims. Lice outbreaks are most prevalent in elementary-age children and are contracted from head to head contact. This lice kit has everything a parent would need to tackle those little monsters. It includes conditioning cream that treats the lice and a nit comb that’s made with unique grooved teeth and rounded ages, making it 300% more effective than other nit combs. The kit also contains a conditioning spray that prevents lice. If you hear that a student in your child’s class has lice, you could spray this on your child to prevent him from getting it. All ingredients in this lice kit are free of pesticides and chemicals. It retails for $29.99 and can be found at Ulta, Bed, Bath, and Beyond, or at fairytaleshaircare.com.
Most nasal sprays for children only contain saline. Saline-based products have been proven to clear and maintain healthy nasal passages; however, the saline can dry out the passages leading to irritation. Kid’s Xlear nasal spray is the only nasal spray that includes saline and xylitol. Xylitol is a natural carbohydrate found in plants and vegetables. The xylitol moisturizes and protects the nasal lining so that it doesn’t become irritated. This product retails for $6.99 and can be found at Whole Foods, The Vitamin Shoppe, or online at xlear.com.
BabyGanics Mineral-Based Sunscreen
I am so excited about this sunscreen. Many organic and natural sunscreens that I have tried are very difficult to rub into the skin. They leave a white film that’s nearly impossible to rub in. The BabyGanics sunscreen does not do this. Further, it contains no PABA, parabens, sulfates, phthalates, or fragrances but is absolutely just as effective as traditional sunscreen products in protecting against UVB an UVA rays. The hypoallergenic, mineral-based formula is tear-free and gentle on sensitive skin. It’s the only sunscreen with the neo-nourish seed oil blend that nourishes the baby’s skin while protecting against the sun’s rays. This product retails for $9.99 and can be bought at Babies-R-Us, Buy Buy Baby, and Target.
Mommy’s Bliss Kids Upset Tummy & Nausea Relief
Since being a mom, I’ve found that stomach viruses are the most challenging to treat. It seems like there are few effective products out there that truly help little bellies feel better. The Mommy’s Bliss Kids Upset Tummy & Nausea Relief treats nausea, motion sickness, gas, bloating, indigestion, and general stomach discomfort. It’s 100% vegan and vegetarian, made with organic ginger, fennel, dill, and peppermint. It contains no alcohol, parabens, artificial flavors, colors, dairy, or soy. This product comes in ten individual packets which are super convenient to throw in the diaper bag. It retails at $10.49 and can be found at select local retailers as well as online at mommysbliss.com.
“Be Prepared” Segment on WSPA’s Your Carolina
I was also asked to review these products on a segment of Your Carolina with Jack and Megan. If you’re like me and are always on the lookout for organic/all-natural products that actually work, try out these four. You won’t be disappointed!
Honestly, my kids getting lice is my worst fear because I know I can’t handle it. I have that Fairy Tales spray and I always spray my boys with a little spritz of hairspray because lice don’t like dirty hair.
The sinus care spray is a must have in our household. My daughter HATES having a stuffy nose. She gets so upset by it. The saline spray really helps to alleviate the stress and also the boogie build up.
I completely agree with your list of essentials! You picked a lot of necessary items!
thats a great list of essentials. so many necessities when you have kids
Good list. I think I need to add nasal spray to mine.
You’ve reminded me I should buy more sunscreen BEFORE I need it!
Lice is a nasty thing to happen to kids. Thanks God my kids have never gotten lice
Argh. Lice! Yes, we stock that in our medicine chest now. Okay… my head itches now. *sigh*
we’ve not had lice yet. I’ve been waiting for it because of having 3 kids. Great advive.
These products sound amazing! I’ve never heard of them, but glad to know now. So happy we haven’t had any lice here, but this looks like a great option if ever it should find us! 😉
You’re right! Sunscreen is good to have in there year round!
Great point about the saline, sinus problems can happen at any time!
I’m terrified of lice so always have treatment in the medicine cabinet. This is a great list of must haves.
All good products to have on hand. I just bought sunscreen yesterday – time to get outside and enjoy the weather – but we need sunscreen
Have them all!! Winning!!
We use the Fairy Tales hair care line for the kids year round. In summer we use the lifeguard stuff and during school, the lice repelling. My son is happy to use it because it doesn’t smell girly or fruity
I think these are great items to ALWAYS have!
We have all of that except for the lice remover.
We love the FairtyTales line. I have a lot of their care products for my kiddos. They seem to work great and I love they they are not packed with chemicals!
The mineral bases sunscreen sounds great. It would be used a lot this summer.
Gosh, I never think about lice! As my baby girl gets older, I’m going to have to have a stash
We keep a stash of Fairy Tales Rosemary spray in our medicine closet and spray on whenever we hear of someone getting lice. I’m checking out the MommyBliss – that is something I def need for my kids.
I remember when my daughter had lice when she was little. It was the absolute WORST! If you have little girls especially, you need this in your medicine cabinet!
We love these essentials too! I love that they are all natural.
We use the Fairytales lice care year round just as a preventative measure. I want to try the Mommy’s Dream for my youngest.
Awesome list Susanna! All looks natural. I’d tell about these to my sister 😉
We are all very fair skinned in this household, so having sunscreen on hand comes in especially handy. It’s about time to get some for the summer, too.
I have been very fortunate to have never had to deal with lice in my family. I love that there is a natural alternative to so many products.
So happy my daughter is grown! I remember one Christmas EVE I was doing a lice treatment to my daughter, my mother, my niece & nephew and then my mother had to do me! What an interesting Christmas Eve that was! LOL My daughter was around 8 I believe, she’s 31 now and I still cringe when we reminisce about those days lol
We use that lice preventing spray. I’m so freaked out by the idea of lice!
Thanks for sharing – I love using as many organic/natural products as possible. I freak about lice because it’s hit our house a few times, and I don’t buy any of those yucky full of bad chemical products. We definitely use all natural organic stuff, and it works great!
