My family says I’m over-committed. But really, I just love being involved in community events, especially when the events contribute to the happiness and education of children. Currently, I’m on two different race committees for races happening in my sweet town of Waynesville, The first, being held in March, is the Mountaineer 2 Miler hosted by the Waynesville Middle School PTA and the second, held in April, is the Reeves’ Readers Run hosted by the Junaluska Elementary PTA. Yes, I am currently serving on two PTAs.
Both committees, made up of teachers and parents, have been working so very hard to promote these two fun, family-friendly events. All proceeds will go toward supplies and materials for students. With the public education budget crisis in full swing, local schools can use as much financial and emotional support as possible.
We would love for folks who are local and regional to run in both races and if you are from out of town, you should come visit! With our beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, a thriving Main Street, breweries, coffee roasters and farm-to-table restaurants, you will not regret visiting Waynesville. Furthermore, hipster and historic Asheville is only 30 minutes away. Below is a little info on each race and a link to register.

*Even though “mountaineer” is in the title, this is a totally flat race. A great route for novice runners because it’s only two miles and a great route for elite runners who want to race the entire two miles for time. The route also weaves through town which offers some great scenery.

*This race is held in honor of Nichole Reeves, a former beloved teacher at JES who passed away shortly after giving birth to her beautiful daughter. She loved books and teaching her students to grow as readers. Also, this running trail is so pretty and peaceful. Brooks and I ran this race last year, and it’s truly a wonderful event honoring a beautiful person.
If you’ve never ran a race, one of these could be your first. Awards for both races are being made by local business Mud Dabbers Pottery. There’s nothing like the feeling of finishing a race! I hope to see you in March or April with your running shoes on. And remember, all proceeds will help students and teachers.
A 2-miler! How interesting! What a great cause to support!
